MADness

Nikki Finke is reporting that Lionsgate is shopping around for a showrunner to replace Matthew Weiner on MAD MEN. Lordy.

So they're blaming the show's viewer downturn on the showrunner? Or the current showrunner is running away?

Enquiring minds want to know.

The implication at DHD is that Weiner wanted a better piece of the pie (which he's due - Mad Men is the best thing AMC has going for it - first basic cable program to ever win the Emmy for best drama, ratings up), but the piece he's asking for is too big. AMC just doesn't have the funds for it and if Weiner decides to play hardball, AMC has limited options. If they try to replace him or if he walks away because they can't meet his ask, the show will be over either way.

I believe this is why the expression "WTF?!?!?!" was invented.
